FAQs

Who can join Footdown? Any leader.
What type of leaders join Footdown? It’s varied and diverse.  Typically, each group will include leaders from corporates, the public sector and a mix of entrepreneurs and owner managers. There will also be a charity and a start-up company (we think it’s very useful for everyone to be reminded of what it’s like to be growing a company from scratch!)
Are you a franchise? No, we’re not.  We want every Footdown member to get the same world class experience; regardless of the group they’re in.
Are new members approved by the group before they join? This might sound slightly arrogant but, yes, they are.  For no other reason than we are very sensitive to the fact that the dynamics within the group are vital to its success.
As a member, can I attend just part of a meeting? Being a group member is a two-way relationship and it’s important to fully commit to each meeting. However, life happens, and we know that this is something that may occasionally be unavoidable.
Can I meet the members of a group before committing to join? Of course!  And they would want to meet you first as well. You will be able to attend a speaker session and then have lunch with the members.
Do I have to be an entrepreneur to join a group? Not at all.  Members have very different backgrounds; you just need to be a decision maker who wants to excel.
Do you have groups outside the UK? Not yet, but watch this space . . .
How much time do I need to commit? There are 11 monthly meetings a year, excluding August.  Each runs from 10.00am to 4.00pm.  However, in September, the meeting will include an overnight stay.  This is the meeting when members set their goals for the next year.  You will also need to set aside 2 hours a month for one-to-one coaching with your Group leader.
You mention goal setting, how do you help me meet those goals? We agree, it’s easy for timelines to slip when you’re busy so we’ve developed Goalscape, a simple and effective software programme to ensure you stay on track.  Your progress is reviewed on a monthly basis during your one-to-one sessions.  We affectionately refer to this as ‘holding your feet to the fire!’
How can I be sure you will really make a difference? Don’t take our word for it – watch the video [link] and read members’ comments [link].  If you still need convincing, just call us.
I’m a director of a plc, how can I trust that the information I share will be confidential? This was exactly the question raised when our first corporate member joined.  So, we asked him to get his Legal Dept to draw up a confidentiality contract they’d be happy with.  And that’s what we now use for all members.
In a large group, how can I be sure that I will have an opportunity to discuss my issues? We pride ourselves in the quality of our Group Leaders.  Each one is an accomplished facilitator.  Added to this is our rigorous process for managing issues that means that all members get an equal share of air time.
Is there a speaker at every meeting? No, not every meeting.  At least 4 meetings a year will be what we call ‘Executive Sessions’.  This means that the group will have the entire day to discuss issues.
What kind of contractual commitment do I have to make before I can join a group? All members sign a Commitment Form on joining a group. Contact us if you would like to see a copy and we’ll send you a draft.
