Are new members approved by the group before they join?

At the group leader's discretion, new members may participate in one full monthly meeting at no cost. The full costs of membership are payable once the new member’s participation is confirmed by both the new member and the group.

As a member, can I attend just part of a meeting?

While it may be unavoidable from time to time, it undermines the quality of both the member’s and the group’s experience.

Can I meet the members of a group before committing to join?

Yes, you will be able to attend the first part of a group meeting – the speaker session - and also spend some informal time with the members during the lunch break.

Do I have to be an entrepreneur to join a group?

Members of groups all have very different backgrounds as leaders; the only qualification required to join a group is that you must be a decision maker committed to improving your leadership performance.

Do you have groups outside the UK?

Not yet, although the framework and models needed to support the formation of overseas groups are in place.

How much time do I need to commit to being a member of the group?

The group meets for the whole day, 10 times a year.  In addition, in September the group meets for a 24 hour period to review individual progress during the previous year and to set goals for the new year.

Between meetings, members have a 2 hour individual coaching session with the group leader.

How can I be sure that being a member will really make a difference to me as a leader?

Firstly, by listening to what our members have to say.  (See the quotations from some of them on the Fifteens page.)

Secondly, as one of our members, Charles Fallon, said once: “You get as much out as you put in.”  We provide the best possible mentoring and coaching framework, together with a truly supportive environment, to enable leaders to fulfil their potential.  The rest is largely up to you.

How are individual members held accountable for their personal commitments to the group?

Members’ personal goals and commitments are recorded and monitored in our own project management software. These are reviewed and updated on a monthly basis during each member’s one-to-one session with the group leader.
I’m often called to meetings abroad at short notice. What happens if I miss a meeting?

Meetings are scheduled one year in advance. While missing a meeting may sometimes be unavoidable, you should bear in mind that it is not just the individual member who loses out – the group may also be weakened as a result of your absence.

However, we do film the speakers’ presentations in order to produce a DVD and CD for distribution to members, so you won’t miss out entirely on the day’s experience.

I’m a director of a plc, how can I be sure that the information I may share at group meetings will be treated confidentially?
All members sign a contract containing, amongst other items, a strict confidentiality clause. This clause was drawn up with the help of one of the founding group members - a director of a large UK corporate.
In a large group, how can I be sure that I will have an opportunity to discuss my issues or challenges?
Every member’s issues, whether large or small, urgent or long term, are given proper consideration by both the group leader and the group and are prioritised according to the same set of transparent rules.
Is there a speaker at every meeting?
No, twice a year we have executive sessions dedicated exclusively to addressing members’ issues.
What kind of contractual commitment do I have to make before I can join a group?
All members sign a contract on joining a group. This necessarily covers the confidentiality aspect of the group. Contact us, if you would like to see a copy of the contract, and we’ll send you a draft.
Where or how do Footdown find speakers?

We are constantly on the look out for interesting and informative speakers; many of whom are suggested by group members. To see some of our recent speakers, go to Speakers’ Corner.
