Rugby loose scrum

Kevin Bowring, Head of Professional Coach Development, RFU

“During the 2015 Rugby World Cup the RFU professional coach development department organised a series of 'Rugby World Cup Coaching Masterclasses’. A handpicked and select group of speakers and presenters were identified and asked to share their coaching and high performance philosophies with groups of coaches operating within the elite player pathway. These sessions were delivered as a backdrop to the RWC matches at host venues in order to give passionate rugby coaches different experiences and stories to take with them back into their coaching roles.

Footdown consultant, Will Jefferson, a former professional cricketer for over a decade, designed and presented an hour long masterclass session to 50 of our coaches from the RFU Development Pathway, Premiership and Championship coaching teams and Directors of school rugby teams. Will shared work examples and stories from using Footdown's F1.1, an organisational intelligence platform, that has helped leaders who need to maintain their organisation’s peak performance. Will used F1.1’s HPW diagnistic suite, measuring culture, performance and engagement, to put across some key points to the audience. Learning from the session was relevant, practical and could easily be applied and adapted to the rugby coaching environment.

Will engaged skilfully with the whole audience to make the session impactful, interactive and relevant to everyone in the room. I would recommend others in coaching and high performance circles – whether it be in sport or business – to spend time with him and to hear more about Footdown's work.”
