A Commitment to Coaching – Laura Gordon

I recently embarked upon a coaching course at the Footdown Coaching School and as a member of the newly created Scotland Fifteen, Footdown’s first leadership mentoring group in Scotland, I wanted to put some thoughts in writing.

I’ve spent over 20 years in the corporate environment. I’ve had a diverse career, starting out with a couple of businesses of my own and going back to study law and becoming a corporate lawyer specialising in IT and media law.  After that I spent a couple of years leading a government economic development initiative, some time in the education sector as a commercial director to an international distance learning provider, and then went back to running my own company. I sit on a few boards, am a Governor at a dynamic and progressive Scottish University and, in my spare time, I take acting classes.

I’ve met a lot of great people over the years, and been involved in some interesting ventures.

But since I’ve been involved with Footdown, at the behest of the new Scotland Fifteen leader Cameron Thomson, I’ve been absolutely blown away by the incredible people I’ve met.

The guys who lead the Coaching School are phenomenal teachers, coaches, and individuals. They genuinely care about the people whose lives they impact significantly upon. They are authentic, inspiring leaders in their field and bring such a degree of professionalism to their teachings that I know for sure I am on the right course. Literally and figuratively speaking.

The people who run Footdown are cut from the same cloth. All are decent, caring and devoted to the wider Footdown family to a degree that is rarely seen in business.

The Scotland Fifteen has only just been set up, and with four inaugural members the script is yet to be written. But with Cameron as a leader, and with the Footdown team and ideology behind us, there is no prospect of it being anything less than first class.

I am excited and driven to succeed in the executive coaching sphere. Not only because I know it’s time to give something back and support other business leaders in achieving their full potential, but also because I know that behind me is the machinery and the passion to ensure that success is the only option.
