TRUNKI IS TOP DOG as Footdown member Rob Law receives his MBE

Rob Law, creator of the innovative Trunki brand and a member of  Footdown’s Bristol based leadership coaching and mentoring group, The Bristol Fifteen since 2008, recently collected an MBE for ‘Services to Business’ with a wheelie-special corgi pal in tow. Rob’s design studio Magmatic – the company behind Trunki – started trading in 2006. In five years he has grown the business into a global success story, collecting 40 awards – across parenting, design and business sectors – along the way. While Magmatic now produces a whole host of family travel accessories from the Travel ToyBox to BoostApak – a backpack and child’s booster seat in one – Law is best known for his iconic children’s ride-on suitcases and felt it only befitting to take one to Windsor Castle to meet her Royal Highness.

“Magmatic is still such a young company, in fact we’ll be celebrating our fifth birthday this coming May. I’m immensely proud of all we’ve achieved especially in such a short space of time – from the 60 plus countries we now trade with around the world, to seeing our 1millionth case roll off the production lines this Summer. I was overwhelmed to receive an MBE and, while the corgi-Trunki was not with me when I met the Queen, I’m sure she would of approved of its superior pedigree” he commented.

Law originally hails from Chester but now both lives and works in Bristol. He has worked internationally, including stints in New York, Taiwan, Australia and for some of the UK’s leading design consultancies.

A regular business traveller, Law made the simple observation that children get bored during journeys, particularly at airports. He initially thought of the Trunki concept while studying a BA (Hons) in Industrial Design at the University of Northumbria.

Law concluded, “Britain’s design and business pedigree is already world class so to be among those recognised at such a prominent level is truly an honour”.
